The last fee of weeks have been rather stressful in the Treasure Valley and the state as everyone patiently awaited to hear more about the layoffs at Micron. The company and the employees were very tight lipped. Local and state government officials had no information and the traditional media was completely in the dark. If you wanted information you had to turn to new media venues such as this Yahoo bulletin board, or blogs like topix.net.
The local traditional media was obviously frustrated by not being able to provide information to their listeners, views and readers. I found it very interested that they turned to new media outlets as sources in their stories, read more here and here. I saw a post by a Statesman reporter on the above Yahoo chat board asking for any information and sources could remain nameless.
